About Somerled Seafood

In 1974, a dream took root in the heart of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce on Somerled Street. Demetrios Elmaliotis and Nick Nikolopoulos opened Somerled Fish Market Ltd., passionately bringing the salt of the sea and the promise of fresh beginnings to their community. As they flourished, Demetrios and Nick’s dedication saw Somerled expand beyond the cozy confines of its birthplace to a burgeoning wholesale enterprise on Colonial Avenue in Montreal.

Somerled Seafood was more than a fish market; it was a place where every scale and fin told a story, where every customer became part of a growing family that spanned across the vibrant city, the shared passion for the ocean’s treasures binding them together. Naturally, the tides of time brought waves of change.

With the wholesale business burgeoning, Somerled bid farewell to its retail origins in 1980, moving to a larger abode on chemin Saint Francois, Ville Saint Laurent, where frozen fish and seafood became the chorus of its opera. But the soul of Somerled would navigate rough waters when co-founder Nick Nikolopoulos passed in 1999, leaving Demetrios to helm the ship alone until his retirement in 2003.

Now located on Saint-François in Saint-Laurent, with family members Kosta Liapis, Claudio Calabrese at the helm, Somerled has been steadfastly growing, a testament to the enduring bond between man and sea, and a heartfelt homage to its founders’ vision.
